Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, seeks bidders for LED streetlight program

The city of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, has issued a Request for Quotations (RFQ) for the establishment of an LED streetlighting program. The city seeks a vendor to supply and install LED streetlights for currently designed projects, as well as identify a supplier for future LED streetlight installations. The term of the RFQ include a one year term with a one year option to supply LED streetlight fixtures. Initially, the goal is to replace 4,652 existing high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights with LED cobrahead luminaires and install 184 new LED fixtures throughout the city.

New Lenox, Illinois, plans full-scale conversion to LED streetlights

City officials in the village of New Lenox, Illinois, are contemplating a large scale conversion of of existing metal halide streetlights to energy efficient LED streetlights. The village currently owns and maintains 1,221 cobrahead streetlights, which equals the majority of its streetlighting inventory.

San Francisco, California, issues RFP for study of wireless controls for LED streetlights

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) of the city of San Francisco, California, is planning to implement a pilot project to test wireless control and communications systems for LED streetlights. This pilot project will be used to assess the potential of adaptive controls in conjunction with LED streetlights and other devices, as part of the city’s large-scale plan to convert 18,500 high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights to LED streetlights.

Novato, California, installs 1,400 LED streetlights

Following a successful pilot installation, the city of Novato, California, is continuing with a large-scale installation of LED streetlights on the city’s roadways. The initial pilot program tested LED fixtures manufactured by BetaLED/Cree as well as induction streetlights. Following a competitive bidding process, city officials selected fixtures manufactured by Leotek Electronics. The city expects to convert 1,400 existing high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights to LED streetlight fixtures.

Lyon Township, Michigan, issues RFP for decorative LED streetlights

The Township of Lyon, Michigan, has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the purchase and installation of 27  decorative LED streetlights.

This project is part of the Downtown Development Authority’s (DDA) larger initiative to grow and revitalize the historic downtown corridor. Previous deployments and the significant savings as a result of energy efficient LED streetlights encouraged city officials to pursue the current installation. “Our earlier installation of LED streetlights has resulted in about a 40% reduction in energy consumption compared to traditional roadway fixtures,” said Michelle Aniol, DDA Administrator and Economic Development Coordinator for Lyon Township. The township-owned streetlights are metered, thus providing officials with accurate data on energy consumption. Existing roadway streetlights are metal halide decorative streetlights. The total number of streetlights in the DDA area is about 150.

Oakland, California, issues RFP for 30,000 LED streetlights

The city of Oakland, California, has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a large scale conversion of existing streetlights to energy efficient LEDs. Previously, the city of Oakland completed several small scale installations of LED streetlights, including one used in the Department of Energy’s Gateway demonstration program. The current RFP solicits bids for the conversion of 30,000 exiting high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights to LED streetlights.

Alturas, California, plans to install 136 LED streetlights

The city of Alturas, California, has applied for supplemental funding to install a second round of LED streetlight fixtures on city streets. City officials submitted a grant application to the California Energy Commission (CEC) for $56,085. The awards are funded by a grant from the US Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. The city of Alturas is hoping to receive confirmation of the award shortly.
