Yuba City, California, plans $1.35 million program to install 3,300 LED streetlights

Yuba City, California, will soon seek bidders for a large scale deployment of LED streetlights. By using a low interest loan of $1,345,487 from the California Energy Commission (CEC), Yuba City will be able to perform a city-wide conversion of its existing high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights to energy efficient LED fixtures. Final approval of the CEC financing and the streetlight replacement project from the municipality’s city council is pending. Upon city council approval, city officials expect the loan to be executed in September 2011. Initial city plans are to use the CEC loan to replace approximately 3,300 existing streetlights with LED streetlight fixtures.
