Baytown, Texas, and the Texas Department of Transportation test BetaLED LED streetlights
Baytown, Texas has deployed the city’s first LED streetlight pilot in collaboration with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and LED streetlight manufacturer, BetaLED. The pilot, located on Highway 146 at the Garth Road overpass, is designed to test LED streetlight applications on interstate freeways and highways. If the performance and economics associated with the LED fixtures is found satisfactory, installations throughout the state of Texas are possible. For the pilot installation, BetaLED, a division of Ruud Lighting of Wisconsin, supplied six LED streetlight fixtures. The fixtures each have 240 LEDs and are 291 watt equivalent fixtures. The streetlights will be installed on three conventional highway light poles.
