San Francisco, California, is preparing to launch a $10 million project to install 17,600 LED streetlights. Focused on city-owned fixtures, the 18 month initiative will be funded in part by a loan from the California Energy Commission.
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom established the ambitious goals for the streetlight conversion program, which will be implemented by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC).
San Francisco is currently running an LED streetlight pilot project in its Tenderloin neighborhood. The fifty-seven LED streetlight pilot is being used to test and evaluate fixtures from two manufacturers, BetaLED and LED Roadway.
